Accuracy and corrections
We verify material facts before publication, identify our sources wherever possible and distinguish clearly between reporting, analysis and opinion. When we make a substantive error, we correct it promptly and explain the change on the article.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made independently of advertisers, sponsors and outside interests. Staff members must disclose conflicts that could reasonably affect, or appear to affect, their work.
Sources and fairness
We protect confidential sources when the public-interest value of their information justifies anonymity. People and organisations facing significant criticism should have a meaningful opportunity to respond.
Artificial intelligence
Technology may support research, transcription and production, but accountable editors remain responsible for everything we publish. We do not knowingly present synthetic material as an authentic record of events.
